Contributing Charger: Natalie Peck Spada ’96

One of Shorecrest's greatest assets is our Community, specifically our behind-the-scenes volunteers. We asked long time community member and this year’s SCA co-Secretary, Natalie Peck Spada ’96, to share what it means to be a part of the Shorecrest Community.

How long have you been a member of the Shorecrest community and what were some of your first impressions of the school/family community?  

Our family has been a member of the Shorecrest school community, since I was a little girl. I attended Shorecrest from Kindergarten until third grade, when my family moved to Tampa. I have many fond memories of my time at the school. My husband and I selected Shorecrest as the school for our children in 2013, when our oldest daughter, Charlotte, began Kindergarten. Our youngest daughter, Caroline, began at The Experiential School in 2014. My husband's first impression of Shorecrest was that it reminded him of the schools he attended in Connecticut - in curriculum and teaching style.  

What made you decide to get involved with SCA?  

I decided to become involved with SCA after co-chairing a sub committee for two years.  I wanted to give back to the community in a meaningful and purposeful way and I wanted my kids to witness me actively participating in their school experience.

How has becoming Co-Secretary of SCA deepened your relationship with the school and with other parents/volunteers?  

Becoming Co-Secretary of SCA has given me a deeper understanding of the time and effort it takes to run a school of Shorecrest's caliber. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes; therefore parent volunteers are an integral part of the school community. Volunteering has also given me the opportunity to interact with parents across all grade levels, teachers, and staff that I would not have had the chance to meet otherwise. These are the people that are with our children every day, and it has been a pleasure to get to know them better!

Why do you think it is important to give back (in time, talent, and treasure) at Shorecrest?  

I think it's important to give back to the school community in any capacity; whether it's volunteering to be a room parent, a library volunteer, chairing a committee, being on the SCA Board or donating. Any time spent volunteering or any amount you are able to donate to the school is only going to elevate your child's experience at Shorecrest.
