Eighth Graders Rock Our World!

Middle School News

Last week the eighth graders shared their Rock Your World projects with Middle School students and faculty. As previously reported, the Rock Your World program guides students to use art and media to offer solutions to, or raise awareness of, global problems. Some celebrated the successful completion of their creative activism campaigns, while others learned to appreciate the process over the product.

A few examples of students putting the Core Values into action are:

Odeyah R. '26 has been passionate about honeybees since she was a little girl. She leapt at the opportunity to combine her love of performance with her care for bees by presenting an original puppet show to Shorecrest first graders. They had a great discussion about the valuable contributions made by bees and learned not to be afraid of our buzzing friends!

Braden S. '26, Deuce T. '26, and Daniel S. '26 launched a series of conversations with classmates meant to encourage civility and openness when exploring issues of diversity, equity and inclusion at Shorecrest. "Waffle Talks" held its first meeting last week around a pile of treats provided by local favorite and friend of Shorecrest Pop Goes the Waffle.

Nicholas C. '26 and Chloe T. '26 looked for a way to bring joy (and nutrition) to St. Pete seniors who might be missing out on regular visits from their loved one during the COVID-19 pandemic. They compiled recipes for healthful treats, then spent their Saturdays delivering the goodies, recipes, and smiles to residents of local retirement homes.
