Chargers Win Varsity Football State Title 2nd Consecutive Year

The Varsity Football Chargers took on played in the State Championship on November 19 at Bryant Stadium in Lakeland vs. Donahue Catholic. The Chargers won by a landslide score of 42-0.

The defense played a masterful game yielding less than 170 yards offense and holding its opponent to zero points (Donahue was averaging 38 points per game). The defense ended the season as the top scoring defense in the State as it only allowed 1.7 points per game.

The offense had another outstanding performance as it amassed a number of explosive plays, led by a 91 yard touchdown run in the 2nd quarter by Aneko Jackson '23. The offense was consistent as a unit scoring on 6 of 9 possessions during the game. 

The team's overall command of the game was a performance for the ages as it dominated both sides of the ball from the first play to the last. 

Other highlights included: Drew Bunn '23 with a 68 yard touchdown pass to James Floto '23; Aneko Jackson '23 with a 35 yard touchdown run; Nickolas Bearden '25 had an interception return for a touchdown.

In addition, 2 Chargers were selected to play in the All-Star Game! The 28th Annual Pinellas County Senior Football All-Star Game is set for December 7 at Countryside High with a 7pm kickoff. Drew Bunn '23 and James Floto '23 have been selected to play for the South team. The game is for public and private school seniors.
