Be the Match Bone Marrow Registry, April 1-4

Upper School News Featured

A Letter from Mrs. Peck’s Intro to Medical Sciences class:

We are excited to announce our Be the Match Bone Marrow Registry Drive, April 1-4 from 7:30-8:30am at the Weiss Family Pavilion. At this drive, we will be facilitating the process for adults (18+) in our community to register as potential bone marrow donors for individuals awaiting a life-saving bone marrow transplant.

  • Individuals must be between the ages of 18-40 to join the registry.
  • The registration process involves a simple cheek swab
  • If you are unable to attend in person, don't worry - we can send home registry kits with students. It is imperative that these kits are returned the following day.
  • Rest assured, this process does not commit you to donate, instead it means that you are interested in helping someone in need.

This student-initiated campaign came about because of what we have learned through our cancer unit. Mrs. Peck has brought in a variety of healthcare providers to discuss their respective fields. One such guest was Taylor Olafson-Brown, APRN at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, who specializes in working with children undergoing bone marrow transplants. Her insights have prompted us to take action.

Olafson-Brown brought attention to the need for more people to join the bone marrow registry and broaden the number and diversity of donors, which would increase the potential to save lives. Inspired by her words, our class has taken it upon ourselves to launch this bone marrow registry campaign to spread awareness and make a difference.

We urge you to consider participating in this important initiative and spreading the word within our community. Together we can make a significant impact and potentially save lives.

If you have any questions or need more information, please feel free to reach out to us.
