Florida Ethnobotany Video Presentations

Middle School News

Shorecrest seventh grade science class kicked off a unit on plants which will include topics such as photosynthesis, osmosis and ethnobotany.

Their Florida Ethnobotany projects started with the driving question: How do Florida's native and naturalized plants contribute to the culture, health, and spirituality of its people? Students were given only a 5-day timeframe to research and create a video about a plant native to Florida that contributes to the population. The students also foraged for plant material from around campus and ideated a product from parts of the plant with an ethnobotanical use. Their 2-4 minute videos were meant to show an in-depth understanding of the plant and its uses.

By learning the different parts of plants and their uses, Chargers can better understand how nature works. By understanding the interconnectedness of humans and their environments, they grow to appreciate the innate value of all life.
