Upper School Veterans Day Ceremony

Upper School News

Last Friday, Upper School students met at the flagpole outside of the Athletic Center for a Veterans Day ceremony sponsored by the Red, White and Blue Club - a Shorecrest Upper School service club.

As the students surrounded the flag, they had the privilege of listening to Brigadier General Brett McMullen, father of Thomas McMullen '19, speak about his involvement with the military, as well as the history behind Veterans Day. He spoke of how the day originated and touched on the idea that some of our own students will go into a military career. Following this interesting talk, the students and teachers took a moment of silence to honor those who serve or have served in the military, remembering the brave loved ones who lost their lives for our country. Accompanying this moment of remembrance, Music Teacher Mr. Updike and Caleb Kravitz '20 played Taps.

After the ceremony, General McMullen and the members of the Red, White and Blue club met in Mrs. Peck’s room to discuss the importance of serving those who serve our country. General McMullen spoke about goal setting and inspired the students to get involved and support a cause in which they are interested. The message of the Veterans Day ceremony was moving for the group and will be remembered.
