This month, fourth and third grade have been really busy in Spanish class!
Fourth grade is immersed in a study this month about Cesar Chavez, in order to celebrate Peace Day and Hispanic Heritage Month. They studied Cesar Chavez's fight for the rights of migrant workers. Guest experts visited the classroom - migrant workers from Plant City, Florida, José and Basilica. The students prepared questions in Spanish to learn about the migrant workers' lives. The study concluded with an essay about the interview.

Classes also celebrated El Día de los Muertos. Third and fourth grade worked in a project combining with Spanish and art classes. In Spanish they studied the tradition/holiday in Latin America and its meaning. They made "altares" and drew a person or pet that they wanted to honor in the altar. They also learned the objects that make up an altar and their meanings. In art class they did crafts related to this holiday. Projects were exhibited in the Lower School breezeways. They were very proud of their work!
The third and fourth graders also wrote and performed poems in Spanish this month! They wrote them to share with their families and friends at Poetry in the Park. It was wonderful to see them creating with the language and using their Spanish skills.Click to watch the third grade poem video.
