Shorecrest Delegates at Boston MUN

On February 6, Shorecrest delegates flew to Boston to participate in the 18th annual Boston Invitational Model United Nations (BosMUN) hosted by Boston University. Shorecrest delegates participated in a variety of committees during the three-day conference. These committees ranged from Security Council and ECOFIN, to historical committees, such as the 1960 Union Minière du Haut Katanga.
Before the conference commenced on Friday, Shorecrest delegates spent time at the Boston Public Library, African Meeting House, and the Harvard University Campus. After a long day of sightseeing, delegates ate dinner at Quincy Market before settling in to do homework and prepare for the conference.
Veteran MUN delegates, Olivia Olson and William Hess, noted the following:
Olivia Olson ’19 – “This year at Model United Nations, I was in an Ad Hoc Crisis committee, so I did not know the topic until the first committee session and was faced with crises throughout the conference. I had never done a committee like this, and it was an amazing experience. A highlight of my committee was when we had a 'Midnight Crisis' and we had a committee session from 12-2am.”
William Hess ’19 – “Shorecrest representation on the Security Council really helped elevate our school’s profile at BosMUN. Debate in Security Council was fierce, yet fruitful, with many crisis events happening involving everything from spilled egg yolks (no joke) to delegates being held hostage. This year, experienced seniors on several committees were at the helm or in leadership roles and did great work under pressure.”
