The Chargers are on their way to the 2016 High School National Championships – The Mallory Cup!
For the third year in a row the Chargers have qualified for the Mallory Cup after a 2nd place finish in the SAISA District Championships held in Lake Norman, NC, this past weekend. Sailing in very shifty conditions, the Chargers found themselves in fourth place on Saturday night after 16 races in both Divisions. Prior to the regatta it was felt that there were 7 strong teams, any three of which could wind up in the top three qualifying positions. Representing Shorecrest were Andrea P, Elizabeth S, Kyle D, Peninah B, Hannah S. and Josh D. Coach John Wallace accompanied the team.

“Shorecrest Sunday” became the watch word, as Hannah S and Peninah B sailing in A Division posted a second and fifth Place finish in their final two races and Josh D and Andrea P, sailing Division B, finished third and second in their two races to wrap up a second place overall finish - only two points out of first place! It should be noted that Hannah S and Josh D will be attending their third Mallory in a row – a first in Shorecrest Sailing history!
The Chargers will attend the Nationals in Charleston on May 13-15, which means the seniors on the team will be missing their own Commencement ceremonies - talk about dedication! In the meantime, the team travels to Fort Lauderdale this weekend for the SAISA District Team Racing Championships from which only the top two teams will emerge as entrants to the Baker Cup – the High School National Team Racing Championships. The Chargers are defending National Champions in Team Racing.
A busy time of year for the Sailing Team! Go Chargers!
