The 2016-2017 Shorecrest Preparatory School Science Fair was a huge success, as in year's past. Seventeen judges, some science teachers as well as scientists from the local community, evaluated fifty-eight projects completed by sixth and eighth graders. All of the projects were competitive, ranging from topics such as repelling mosquitos, testing if a kicked soccer ball had enough G-force to cause a concussion, or testing how to help plants grow in drought-like conditions.
The students celebrated their accomplishments by sharing their work with many Lower School classes that came to visit to be "Jr. Judges" for fun, and by presenting to their parents during the evening of the "Science Showcase." Each project also included a QR code leading to a short (2 min max) video explaining the project.
Many Shorecrest students will be moving on to compete in the Regional Science Fair on Saturday, February 4, and some projects will also be on display at Sundial St. Pete on the weekend of February 24. Below are the results of the competition.
