Upper School News


Art connects us to many aspects of life. At Shorecrest, art is interwoven in the curriculum. To celebrate the lessons and skills taught all year, student artwork is displayed throughout campus for a juried art show in both the Middle and Upper Schools during Celebrate the Arts Week.

At an Upper School Assembly, Mrs. Gaglio announced the 2019 Celebrate the Arts Upper School Juried Exhibition Winners in the categories of sculpture, graphic design, photography, drawing, and painting. Art was judged by Upper School Faculty and Dr. Hank Hine, Executive Director of the Dali Museum.

Congratulations to Angel Cherman '19! Her painting, pictured, won Best in Show. Blue, white and red ribbons for first, second and third place can still be found hanging by student art for you to view throughout the Janet Root Theatre Lobby and the Student Activity Center.

Mr. Norman Bungard, an involved citizen of St. Petersburg and friend of the Shorecrest community, also provided monetary prizes for his favorite pieces in the art show. Congratulations to third place winner Erin Mullins ‘20, second place winner Will Forney ‘19, first place Trevor Bernstein ‘19 and Best of Show Lizzie Camp ‘22.

Upper School was also treated to a student-produced film festival. Awarded at the special assembly were:
  • Outstanding Playwright - Jaina Swann '22
  • Outstanding Film Makers - Andrew Newman '20 and Channing Jung '21
