Shorecrest’s Mission is augmented by the generosity of our parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends who support the school philanthropically or by effecting change locally, globally or right here at Shorecrest. We call these community members Contributing Chargers.
This week we would like to recognize Andrea and Tim Haddock, parents of John ’24 and Sam ’25. After joining the community in 2020, the Haddock family has supported Shorecrest philanthropically and through their time and talents. When asked why Shorecrest is important to their family, Andrea shared:
“Our decision to leave NYC in 2019, our home for over 20 years -- and a K-12 school that was a big part of our lives, was a difficult one. We visited and learned about several schools in Florida, from Tampa down to Sarasota, and none felt like home until we discovered Shorecrest. From the first moment we stepped onto campus, we were inspired by the culture: student-centric, notably strong academics, parent and community involvement, well-roundedness and inclusion. We ultimately joined the Shorecrest community in the fall of 2020 and as much as we were excited for the adventure, we were also anxious about the timing – in the midst of the pandemic. Shorecrest handled it as well as we could have imagined.
Our two sons (John ’24 and Sam ’25) both joined the football team and quickly fell in love with their team and coaches even before the first day of school. Once classes started, our boys integrated with teachers and friends easily and we soon began to learn more about Shorecrest through their lens.
We are now in our second year at Shorecrest and it has exceeded our expectations in every respect. The leadership, faculty and staff are genuinely dedicated to their mission and the students. John and Sam are challenged in the classroom, have developed close bonds with many of their teachers, are active in extracurricular and community service and have made wonderful friends. As their parents, these are the qualities we care about most - and Shorecrest delivered.
We don’t take our good fortune with Shorecrest for granted - and so it is a priority for us that the school continues to live up to its high standards and is also well-positioned to meet new challenges. Financial resources that extend beyond those provided by tuition offer a valuable opportunity to improve programs that further enrich the student environment and culture. We recognize that our experience has been made possible by the significant contributions (financial and otherwise) of others who preceded us - and we want to help ensure the same for those who follow. Looking forward, we hope that even greater socio-economic diversity can be realized, that a mission of service will become more deeply ingrained in our sons and that academic excellence and ideas continue to be explored to their greatest capacity.”
The impact of Contributing Chargers is felt every day. When we make a gift or volunteer our time to Shorecrest, we are really just giving back to each other.
