The International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) has elected Charles (Chas) Reynolds '81, managing partner of the Tampa office of Tyson & Mendes LLP, as a new member of the IADC Board of Directors for 2023-24. The announcement was made at the organization’s 2023 Annual Meeting July 14 in Waimea, Hawaii.

The IADC is the preeminent, invitation-only, global legal organization for attorneys who represent corporate and insurance interests. The IADC board oversees activities that benefit the organization’s members and their clients, as well as the civil justice system, the legal profession, and society in general. In addition to its core purpose involving professional development for members, the IADC takes a leadership role in many areas of legal reform. IADC members are among the world’s leading corporate and insurance lawyers at large and small law firms and senior counsel in corporate law departments, as well as corporate and insurance executives. Members represent the largest corporations around the world, including many of the companies listed in the FORTUNE 500.

A member of the IADC since 2004, Chas previously served as chair of the IADC’s Professional Liability Roundtable program (2023), Toxic and Hazardous Substances Litigation Committee (2022-2023), and Construction Law and Litigation Committee (2008-2011). He also served as a faculty member for the IADC’s 2014 Trial Academy program, and as chair of the 2021 Annual Meeting CLE.

With more than three decades of experience as an attorney, Chas concentrates his practice on casualty and liability litigation with a focus in the areas of premises liability, toxic torts, products liability, personal injury, professional liability, and construction. He has represented numerous theme parks in personal injury claims, handled and coordinated hundreds of construction defect claims against a national building supplier, and litigated a multitude of asbestos toxic tort lawsuits on behalf of several companies.

In addition to his litigation experience, Chas served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force before becoming chief legal officer for a military supplier of sophisticated weapons guidance systems. He was one of two attorneys in Florida appointed by the state bar to oversee and author opinions on judicial conduct and election laws in Florida, and currently is a governor-appointed member of Florida’s Judicial Nominating Commission.
