2nd Annual Shore to Shorecrest 5K Run/Walk
The anticipation in the air, the shuffle of hundreds of feet, the smell of sunscreen and then the words you’ve been waiting for: “On Your Mark. Get Set. Go!” That’s what it felt like for the almost 400 racers at the Shore to Shorecrest 5K presented by Dermaclinique: Dr. Priya Nayyar, M.D.
Head of School, Nancy Spencer, commented, “Our second annual 5K was a wonderful event on a gorgeous Sunday morning. The sense of community was palpable as we were waiting at the start line. It was so much fun to see all sorts of runners, walkers, strollers - even a few piggyback riders - complete the course.”
Once the runners made it to campus, friends, family, volunteers, faculty and staff were there to cheer them across the finish line. A big pancake breakfast cooked by the Shorecrest Dad’s Night Out group and SAGE also awaited the runners.
“Our 7-year-old first grader ran the entire 5k without either parent and he was so proud of himself for completing his first 5K. Kudos to the PE coaches and Shorecrest staff for encouraging the students to try new things and challenge themselves physically and mentally,” shared Vanessa Muniz, mom of Mason ‘36 and Milana ‘37.
There was something for everyone at the Wellness Village. From free sunscreen, koozies and caps, to information about skincare and yoga.
“Overall it was a fun-filled day that ties in to one of the pillars of the School's strategic plan: health and wellness,” said Sarah Heibein, Associate Director of Advancement Community Partnerships.
The Sparky Sprint brought in quite a crowd, with 59 participants from Alpha-third grade. Sparky was there to cheer runners through the Woodie’s Car Wash mister and across the finish line.
"I directed traffic and handed out medals at the finish line. Seeing everyone having fun and doing something in support of Shorecrest was really great. I also enjoyed watching the littles do the Sparky Sprint. The whole event was great and it meant a lot seeing everyone together as a true community after these catastrophic storms," said Mila Bianco ‘26.
Michael Gillis, Director of Advancement, added, “Remarkably, the Shore to Shorecrest 5K not only connects us to our original campus and founding story, but it connects us with each other and the wider St. Petersburg at a time when we all really needed to be together.”
