Crafting Creativity in Second Grade

Lower School News Arts

Spanish and art came together in a fun and imaginative way thanks to Lori Auletta, Lower School Art Teacher, and Emili Jaime-Allwood, Lower School Spanish Teacher. These faculty members teamed up to combine puppet-making and Spanish vocabulary learning for Shorecrest second graders.

“Children adore the opportunity to let their imaginations run wild,” shared Mrs. Jaime-Allwood.

During the project students crafted wooden puppets and clothing for them, and then practiced their clothing vocabulary in Spanish class. “They had a fantastic time crafting their unique puppets, which will help enhance their oral skills as they share details about their creations,” said Mrs. Jaime-Allwood.

As a follow-up to this project the teachers plan to build on the creative energy by introducing a storytelling unit where students use their puppets to perform short shows in Spanish. This will not only strengthen their language skills but also foster teamwork and boost their confidence in speaking.

“We’re eagerly looking forward to witnessing how their creativity and language proficiency continue to grow through these interactive and engaging activities,” said Mrs. Jaime-Allwood.
