Shorecrest Eighth graders recently completed an introductory poetry unit that invited them to compare pop music love songs to classic poetry love sonnets. Sonnets are traditionally addressed to imaginary or idealized women by poets who are obsessed with them. As an alternative assessment, the students wrote sonnets addressed to inanimate objects with which they are obsessed, called "The Object of My Affections." The poems were "published" in the classroom.
