As a culminating project of the Hero’s Journey unit and the reading of "The Hobbit" in English class, the sixth grade re-told the story in stop-motion animation format using LEGOs and other found objects. Book discussion groups became project groups, with each group choosing a chapter to recreate and each student choosing a role to play within their group.
Brainstorming, writing storyboards, set design and filming were done in the classroom, and the final editing in iMovie was completed in the Sher computer lab.

The purpose of this project was to further deepen content understanding of a challenging text and to allow individual interpretation of the story and creativity to shine. The individual chapters were put together in order to form a full movie of "The Hobbit," and the end result is... magic!
