Eighth Grade Coastal Restoration Project

Middle School News

To help alleviate some of the damage to our Bay, Shorecrest eighth graders over the last ten years have focused on protecting and restoring our coastlines. Through the Bay Grasses In Classes Program, eighth grade Chargers have grown plants on Shorecrest grounds and transplanted them along the Bay as part of a community restoration program sponsored by Tampa Bay Watch.

About once every 2 weeks, eighth graders check their sea grasses for diseases, test the water quality, weed, and perform basic plant maintenance. This year they are planting seashore paspalum on campus.

Last year’s plugs were transplanted on the western coast of MacDill AFB. Chargers have made a great contribution to the largest ecosystem restoration project in the Tampa Bay Area!
