Sixth Graders Practice Adulting at Enterprise Village

Middle School News

If you're a Tampa Bay Area local, chances are you've had the opportunity to explore Enterprise Village - an exceptional educational destination in Largo where students immerse themselves in a simulated living and working experience for a day.

On April 29, Shorecrest's sixth grade class embarked on their inaugural journey to Enterprise Village. Each student was assigned a job, received a paycheck, adhered to a structured schedule, and embraced a day filled with focused engagement as they delved into dynamics mimicking the adult "real world."

The sixth grade teaching team, led by Mark Nelson, made sure the students were thoroughly prepared for their adventure. What initially began with wide-eyed wonder soon transformed into a sense of purpose and clarity as they entered the expansive venue. With a job to fulfill and a team of committed parent volunteers by their side, the students faced the challenges of managing a budget, while saving, spending and working as a team to help their business find success.

"This was the most entrepreneurial group we've had all year," said Ms. Francine, an Enterprise Village Lead.

Earl Walton, Director of RRI said, "This is one of those opportunities that allows us to take things up a notch. While our sixth graders worked and learned, our Upper School Financial Literacy class joined us for the day, providing them a chance to network with parents and hone their mentoring skills."
